Bob and Jerry Dethlefs have agreed to host the 2014 Peterson Family Reunion in Bend, Oregon. Get out your maps, add the dates to your Smartphones, Blackberries, Androids, and IPods. Note it in Outlook. Put a sticky note on the refrigerator.
See you then.

I'm not sure how many of the Peterson clan actually read this blog but for those of you who do and if you also have Facebook, I have started a group for the Family called the Anton Peterson Family. It is to so we can stay connected and exchange ideas, family info and such but also to ask the question: Do we want to have another reunion and if so, who will step up to host it and where will it be?

The reunion in Bend was very nice. Jerry and Cindy were fantastic hosts it was a beautiful area but unfortunately only about 30 family members came and at the end no one volunteered to host the next reunion so whether we have another one is up in the air.

I volunteered to set up the FB page so we could get more family members involved to see if we want to have another reunion and what we can do to get more participation. Do we need to have it at a different time? Families with children may have school starting in August, when would be a better time? Costs and travel are always a consideration so should we continue to have it rotate from the West to the East or find somewhere inbetween? Even young families take vacations what should we be looking for in a venue to make it more appealing to younger family members?

These are just some of the questions I have come up with but I can't answer them on my own so if you are on FB and know a family member who is on FB and apart of the group ask them to "friend" you into the group or send me the request so you can be included. Yes, we might not know each other but we are family and we are a great family! I hope we don't drift apart. Love to you all.

Update on the Walter and Viola Peterson Clan

We have received update on the Walter Peterson branch of the family from Karen Engvall.  Thanks, Karen

Joyce Peterson,  Laurence Peterson’s wife, passed away at the age of 94, on July 25, 2012. Joyce and her daughter, Lerri, were at the Washington reunion in 2008.

Curtis F Peterson, son of Walter and Viola, passed away at the age of 87, on August 23, 2012.  He did not recover from surgery for an obstructed bowel.  Curt was at the Spearfish reunion in 2002.

Julie Smith, 59, daughter of Lu & Ted Dethlefs, passed away in Kent WA, the night of September 9th. (I don’t know yet if it was on the 9th or 10th for the genealogists among you.  We are waiting to hear more later).  Julie has fought a valiant battle with breast cancer  which also took her sister, Peggy Dethlefs in 2004.  Peggy’s husband Marvin died Feb. 11, 2011.  He was at the Washington reunion in 2008.  Ted, Lu’s husband and the girls’ father, died May 7, 2011.  An a brighter side, Kelly, Peg & Marvin’s daughter, was married to Matt Palmer on August 19, 2012 in Portland.  Julie and her friend, Russ Martin, were at the Lake Coeur d'Alene reunion in 2005.

Safe Drive Home to California

Just got a note from Harold: " A call from Kent this afternoon indicated the safe arrival Dorothy had back in Auburn, CA. She arrived around noon today their time. We are all grateful."

We can say that again, "Glad you're home safely, Dorothy."

FRIDAY:

Friday evening dinner in the Bridge Room (a buffet) at 6:30 with the evening for visiting, getting reacquainted, and enjoying the Guesthouse.

SATURDAY:

Saturday breakfast in the Bridge Room by 8:30.

Saturday morning The Big Red Trolley will pick us up at 9:30 for a two hour guided tour of Fort Wayne. This will last until 11:30.

Saturday lunch on your own—there are several restaurants in the area and, of course, the Guesthouse will be happy for you to eat there.

Saturday afternoon activities are visits to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, the Zoo, or the Fort Wayne Library (especially for those interested in genealogy), or to just enjoy the pool, exercise room or hospitality room with games, visiting, looking at pictures and other memorabilia.

Saturday evening will be very special with the family being served in the Mallory Room at 6:00 o’clock followed by “Trivia-tainment” led by George Corser and opportunity for family pictures.

SUNDAY:

Sunday morning will start with Sunday devotions (time and place to be decided) followed by breakfast. The Guesthouse has a bountiful breakfast buffet served all morning. Our family will once again be seated in the Bridge Room.

Following breakfast we’ll say good-bye to those who must leave. Check out time is 12:00 o’clock.

Sunday afternoon all who are still available are invited to Jan and Kevin Davidson’s for “hanging out’, playing games, and a cook out.
